One College of Nursing in Illinois teamed up with the UIC School of Public Health to launch initiatives to attract more nursing students, under a three-year U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant. The new programs include a mentoring program for paraprofessionals and a fast-track nursing degree program.
A new version of parish nursing called "crescent" has been created by a Virginia University
graduate. Parish nursing involves giving a nurse an opportunity to provide services in a
Christian or Jewish place of worship. In crescent nursing, a Muslim nurse will render primary
and preventative care to Muslim followers while the mosque will offer both location and
support for the services, which is a new concept for America and this 21st Century. Crescent
nursing with provide healthcare and religion-based nursing outside of the Judeo-Christian
tradition.
One well known hospital's education department is now offering a nursing degree program in conjunction with a centrally located medical school of nursing in the state of Maine.
